Volunteer with Us!

Volunteers are an integral part of the Hospice of the Upstate team, providing compassion and support when it is needed most.

The heart and hands of hospice, they provide a special kind of nurturing to patients, families, and staff by helping to make the hospice experience manageable and rewarding. Men, women, and young people of all ages and backgrounds volunteer for Hospice of the Upstate in a powerful way to serve our community.

Our Volunteer Coordinator, Dana Honbarrier would love to chat with you! She can be reached at 864-224-3358 or dhonbarrier@hospicehouse.net.

Types of Volunteers

Patient/Family Support

These volunteers work with staff to provide supportive services for patients and families. Services may include offering companionship, assistance with chores, running errands, or providing respite for the family caregiver. If you are interested in being a patient/family support volunteer, special training is required.

Office/Special Events Volunteer

Volunteers offer clerical assistance with filing, answering phones, computer entry, mailings and working on community events through out the year.

Hospice House Outdoor Grounds Volunteer

The hospice house grounds are filled with beautiful gardens that require the tender loving care of our grounds volunteers to maintain. This would be a great volunteer opportunity for groups, clubs or organizations.

11th Hour Volunteer

These incredible volunteers give the gift of presence when death is imminent so that no one should have to die alone. The 11th-hour volunteer requires special training.

Grief Support Volunteer

Volunteers working with our Bereavement Team are essential. They provide support to our Bereavement Counselors by making phone calls, mailing cards, clerical support, or assisting with grief support groups.
