Our Leadership Team

Annette Miller

CEO

Annette Miller is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelors degree in Communications with an emphasis in Communications (1990). Annette has worked in hospice care for 31 years starting at Hospice of Northeastern Michigan, a non profit hospice, in 1991. Annette worked for 12 years in many capacities with Hospice of Northeastern Michigan then becoming Hospice of Michigan where she worked as Admissions Director, Executive Director and ending her career at Hospice of Michigan as the Northern Regional Director. She was appointed to the Leadership team for Hospice of Michigan, lead the Northern Region Ethics Committee, developed the first hospice/ nursing home facility patient care in northern Michigan and serviced several communities throughout northern Michigan.

Upon moving to South Carolina with her family in 2003, Annette started the Laurens County Wound Care and Hyperbaric Chamber in 2004. Missing her love of Hospice care, she began working for Vistacare in 2006 as the Executive Director for the Greenville, SC branch. She successfully lead a struggling location to profitability and won several awards for the highest patient satisfaction scores as well as quality care and fiscal responsibility awards. She was appointed to the leadership team for all of Vistacare that became Odyssey Hospice. She ended her career 11 years later as a Regional Director for Kindred Hospice to become President and CEO of Hospice of the Upstate.

Annette returned to her love of non-profit hospice work through Hospice of the Upstate and Rainey Hospice House in 2017. In 2021, she began the work of creating Upstate Palliative Care which services our 7 counties with outpatient palliative care services. She is honored to be a part of a prosperous, patient focused, caring organization that values their employees and excellent quality of care for all patients and families.

Raye Bradshaw

Patient Care Coordinator – Rainey Hospice House

Raye has been with Hospice of the Upstate since December of 2017. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Raye serves as the Patient Care Coordinator for the Rainey Hospice House. When Raye is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and fur babies.

Nika Fowler

Patient Care Coordinator – Home Care

Nika has been in the medical field since she was 17 years old, starting as a CNA and then worked to receive her Bachelor of Nursing degree in 1998. She spent the first 8 years of her nursing career in an Emergency Department, gaining experience as a staff nurse, educator and then director. She then took her nursing experience to hospice beginning in 1997, where she worked as a staff nurse and then a clinical manager, during this time she completed her Master of Nursing Degree in Nursing Education. Nika came to Hospice of the Upstate in April of 2018 where she serves as one of the Patient Care Coordinators for Home Care. She is currently working on a post-graduate degree in Nursing Leadership and Management. In her time off she does community service as a member of her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, but especially enjoys spending time with family and friends, attending live music venues and reading a good book.

Hannah Holbrook

Compliance & Clinical Education

Hannah is a graduate of Clemson University with a BSN in 2016. In June 2017, Hannah joined Hospice of the Upstate as an Admissions Liaison working directly with AnMed. Since then, she has been promoted to Compliance and Education Manager working in our Quality Department. Hannah is an Anderson native and has two sweet pups that enjoys coming home to. She feels extremely lucky to call Hospice of the Upstate her work home.

Dana Honbarrier

Volunteer Coordinator

Dana graduated from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) with a BS in Health Promotion and Behavior. She has worked in various non-profits for the last twenty years. Coming to Hospice of the Upstate in October of 2022, she currently serves as our Volunteer Coordinator. Dana has a mini cooper she calls Winston and loves to spot others driving around town. She has a love for horses, dogs and honey bees! She is excited to meet people and get them involved with Hospice of the Upstate.

Dr. Alissa Manfredi

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Alissa Manfredi is a graduate of the University of Delaware and Jefferson Medical College. She completed residency at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Family Medicine. Dr. Manfredi is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice. After residency she began her career in urgent care centers in NC, KY, IN and SC. Upon moving to SC she worked in Greenville Memorial’s Emergency Department. In 2018, she became the Chief Medical Officer for Hospice of the Upstate for our Home Care patients in Abbeville, Greenville, Oconee and Pickens Counties. When she’s not busy with her two girls, she likes to run and cycle, and enjoy the occasional date night with her husband.

Larissa Mittmann

Business Operations Manager

Larissa comes to Hospice of The Upstate with 10 years of hospice experience. She realized early in her hospice career that her compassion for people had landed her in the right place. She credits this compassion and love for people from growing up in Pickens, SC where she would often visit Rosemond Nursing Home where her mom worked. Holding a degree in Health Care Administration, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the HOU team.

Joan Morella

Senior Manager of Compliance

Joan has been an RN for 30 years. She started her career as a hospital nurse working on Orthopedic and Med/Surg. units in New York where she was raised. She continued her nursing career in South Carolina where she has now resided for the last 27yrs beginning with volunteering at the Greenville Free Clinic followed by LTC facility Supervisor, MDS Coordinator, Hospice admissions nurse, and Hospice Quality Manager. On her time off she enjoys crafts, reading, traveling and quiet time with family and pets.

Erin Richardson

Director of Upstate Palliative Care

Erin Cox Richardson grew up in Anderson, SC and completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Clemson University with a focus in health science and human resource development. She has 15 years of non-profit leadership and over 10 years in healthcare sales and marketing. Erin joined Hospice of the Upstate in 2018 as marketing liaison and has dedicated the last two years developing and managing Upstate Palliative Care, a new specialized, in-home medical care program for people with serious illness. Erin resides in Clemson with her husband and two daughters.

Ashla Shingler

Senior Manager of Development

Ashla has been with Hospice of the Upstate since April of 2014. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Lander University in Business Administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Management and a master’s degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Healthcare Administration. Ashla was excited when an opportunity came for her to come home and work for her local, nonprofit hospice. When Ashla is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband Ivey, their sons John and James.

Kimberly Spears

Capital Campaign Manager

Kimberly joined Hospice of the Upstate as Capital Campaign Manager in the Spring of 2022. She is currently in the planning stages to rebuild the infrastructure and enhance the interior amenities. A graduate of Winthrop University, she served as Executive Director of the Anderson Arts Center from 1993-2017. In that capacity she led a 4.2 million campaign to renovate a 33,000 square foot warehouse for galleries, classrooms and an artist coo-op, making it one of the finest art facilities in the state. She was key in bringing public art to Anderson and building the partnerships necessary to make it successful. Kimberly is honored to work for Hospice of the Upstate and help families honor their loved ones with legacy giving.

Elizabeth Stone

Human Resources Manager

Elizabeth Stone has a Bachelor’s of Art from the University of South Carolina. After completing college, she worked in pharmaceutical sales for 19 years. Starting in Marketing at Hospice of the Upstate in March of 2020, she transitioned into Human Resources in August of 2022. Elizabeth lives in Belton with her husband and 3 kids and is honored to work for her hometown non-profit hospice, that has served her family over the years!

Sunny Wells

Senior Director of Admissions & Marketing

Sunny is a 2001 graduate of Winthrop University with a degree in Communication Disorders. In 2004, Sunny joined Hospice of the Upstate as Volunteer Coordinator. She moved into the Referral Liaison role in 2018 and was promoted to Director of Admissions and Marketing in 2022. Sunny is an Anderson native and currently resides here with her husband and two girls. She is proud to work for an organization that shares her love for the community.
